What is Photo-catalytic Technology?
The technology is based on the use of Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), which, when exposed to light (including UV), acts as a catalyst. This process creates active oxygen, which is capable of decomposing harmful organic materials.
The mechanism relies on 2 central principles:
- Photo-catalysis: The TiO2 particles react with UV light to create active oxygen. This oxygen decomposes/“burns” organic contaminants (like pollen, soot, and organic dirt), turning them into fine dust that is easily washed away.
- Superhydrophilicity: Water (such as rain or washing) does not bead but spreads over the surface as a uniform, thin layer. This layer efficiently dissolves and carries away any remaining contaminants and salt particles, preventing streaks and residue.
